Gorky Street, 14

The phenomenal popularity of The Beatles somehow managed to slip through the iron curtain and into the USSR. In the 1970’s almost every cultural Soviet Center or club played their songs. Even today, John Lennon and company are regarded as the most famous band in the world. Local fans of the Liverpool group had the idea of a monument to their favourites. After permission for the construction was received, the work of community fund-raising began.
The monument was designed by Vadim Okladnikov and installed in 2009. Its silhouettes look authentic and recognisable as the individual members of The Beatles. The inscription ‘the love you take is equal to the love you make’ stands next to the monument.
