9. Kilometer Zero

Нулевой километр

Lenin Avenue, 39

Zero kilometre is the geographical centre of Ekaterinburg and the whole of the region. It is the point from which road distances are measured as recommended by the Universal Postal Union. The round slab with contours of the Sverdlovsk region, and the capital of the Urals indicated by a star, was installed in 1986 at the entrance to the Central Post Office.

The Central Post Office building is of interest as an example of soviet constructivism architecture and was built in 1934. New and functional names were used for this style of architecture - The House of Printing, The House of Justice, The House of Defence and (of course), The House of Communication.
