Lenin Avenue - Voevodina Street
In 1878 a railway between Perm and Ekaterinburg opened and stimulated the revival of trade in both cities. Servicing the railway led to the construction of railway repair workshops and a mechanical factory in the square. The Water Tower was built to supply pressurised water which was essential to fill the steam boilers of the repaired locomotive engines and supply the workshops.
The Tower’s construction is hexagonal in shape and a combination of granite and wood. The lower six stories are made with granite blocks and its upper tier is wooden, with a lantern at the top. The tower has been preserved in its original form and is considered one of Ekaterinburg’s most famous landmarks.
